Interesting outing but a bit too long. The best part of this tour was the retired guards at different locations sharing their experiences. The prison itself seems like it was occupied by prisoners umm ....yesterday! I wish there was more history involved in the tour but its has not been open for that long, so maybe they will make it more interesting as time goes on. There is a better museum across the road that is FREE with no wait.

We really enjoyed our tour. The guides and guards were all well informed. It was a little hot in some spots but I guess you can call that realism. We were worried our seven year old would get bored but he enjoyed the tour too. The guides answered his questions on his level which made it extra interesting for him. I really recommend the tour if you like historical sightseeing.

Great visit. Glad we booked our tickets before we went. They ended up sold out for the day, so was happy with my proactive move. Our guide was very pleasant and informative. The former employees onsite sharing their first-hand stories was also extra special. Was nice to have them answer so many questions, especially enjoyed chatting with Vern. Be sure to visit the museum across the street also. The museum portion is by donation.

Loved this tour! It is pricey but well worth it. We took our 9 and 11 year old and neither complained about being bored. It was especially cool that they had retired guards there to give information and share personal experiences in the main areas. Highly recommend.

My family and I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. I liked how they had retired KP guards to share some of their stories and history of the penitentiary. My wife and I did the 1.5 hour tour with our 5 yrs and 3 yrs girls. The girls got a little bored but there was jails you could go into and an exercise yard for them to run around just the the prisoners did years ago. The tour company does say that it is not recommended for children 5 and under but our kids...managed. I would probably do the 2.5 hour tour without kids. The architecture of the buildings was so fascinating. I would recommend this tour!
